We bought 1 week/year at Club de Soleil (CS). Paid off the mortgage, and then quit paying maintenance fees (MFs) because in all the years we paid on the mortgage and MFs, we could never get a reservation. Always No Vacancy, even in January. After many letters from CS demanding MFs, I received a letter from a collections agency. I responded by explaining why we refused to pay the maintenance fees and offered to pay the collection agency's fee if they would negotiate to get us released from our contract. If I'd had enough money and energy, I should have sued CS for a full refund.
Well, the collection agency did exactly what I requested, and we signed the deedback agreement and they sent us a letter explaining we were no longer owners and there would be no negative marks on our credit and so on. That was in May 2013. And there was no charge for that, too. Kudos for Continental Central Credit! Real professionals. So we were free, we thought.
Within a week, we received a letter from CS encouraging us to make a reservation so we wouldn't lose our "week" for that year.
We received no other communications after that until early 2018 when, completely out of the blue, we received a notice from Club de Soleil that we were behind in our maintenance fees since 2010 and were 90 days overdue and we need to pay $1,700 right now.
I guess they think we're old and senile enough to fall for the scam.
